A top Democrat is pushing back on calls for an investigation into Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, and hired a wanted fugitive as a security guard before he was fatally shot in a shootout with SWAT officers.

“I don’t know if it’s the House’s place to investigate,” Rep. Pete Aguilar of California told Fox News Digital in a recent interview.

Diamon-Mazairre Robinson, 39, who used the alias “Mike King” while working at Crockett, was shot and killed by Dallas SWAT officers following a shootout in a hospital parking lot in early March. Police responded to an active arrest warrant issued for him following his alleged impersonation of law enforcement and seized 11 firearms, some of which were stolen, during the operation.

“It depends on whether you’re using campaign money or House resources, but that’s a matter of House Administration. [Committee] “If that’s the case, we have to deal with it,” Aguilar added.

Crockett’s office paid King at least $6,300 for security services in 2025, according to Fox News Digital’s review of Crockett members’ representation allowance (MRA). The congressman’s House campaign account also distributed $340 to King for security services in March 2025, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

The MRA funding package, made up of taxpayer dollars, is effectively an operating budget for each lawmaker to pay staff, cover security costs and cover other operational costs.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the House Administration Committee for comment.

Crockett denied any wrongdoing and said his office followed every House protocol in hiring Robinson, who he claimed did not raise any suspicions while he was a member of the security team.

“There was no reason to suspect that he was not who he claimed to be,” Crockett said in a statement released by his office.

Instead, Crockett blamed “deficiencies” in the investigation process, including failure to confirm Robinson’s identity or capture his lengthy criminal record, including multiple arrests for theft and probation violations.

“We are fortunate that it was someone who used these loopholes without malicious intent,” Crockett said, adding that a preliminary investigation showed Robinson did not commit any violent crimes.

In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Crockett dismissed questions about whether he had knowledge of Robinson’s criminal history before hiring him.

“I’ll direct you to my page,” the Texas Democrat said, referring to the social media post. “I made a statement and said there would be no additional explanation. Do you need someone to read this for you? I can find someone to do it.”

JASMINE CROCKETT SUGGESTS THE GOP IS CHEATING IN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY ELECTIONS: ‘THAT’S WHAT REPUBLICANS WANT TO DO’

House GOP leadership has voiced openness to an investigation but warned that lawmakers are still learning details about the incident.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., told Fox News Digital: “Once there’s a background check, I need to get the facts … but there are processes in place.” “We will look at the possible need to tighten this.”

House Oversight Committee chairman R-Ky. Rep. James Comer did not have a definitive answer when asked by Fox News Digital whether Republicans planned to investigate the incident, saying he was still reviewing the matter.

Aguilar said he did not expect Republicans to launch a formal investigation, citing Crockett’s loss in the Texas Senate primary to state legislator James Talarico, D-Texas.

“Jasmine didn’t win, so I assume they probably won’t focus on her as much,” Aguilar said, referring to House Republicans.

Rep. James Walkinshaw, D-Va., said the incident will likely spark debate among lawmakers about examining the vetting process lawmakers use for security personnel.

“We need to tighten the processes around recruiting security guards for members,” Walkinshaw told Fox News Digital.

Crockett’s office did not respond to a request for comment on how Robinson was vetted before being hired as a member of the security team.
