Reporter’s Notebook: White House slams top Democrat for saying shutdown gives party ‘leverage’

Senate Republicans today are pushing Democrats to take a stand; vote to pay (supposedly essential) federal workers expected during the shutdown or risk appearing anti-worker.

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis. and Todd Young, R-Ind. The bill, drafted by , would pay soldiers, on-duty TSA agents, air traffic controllers and law enforcement.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (DY) says this is a “political ploy” to allow Trump to “pick” who gets paid.

House Whip Katherine Clark, D-Mass., acknowledged to Fox News in a now-viral clip that “families will suffer” from the shutdown but added that “this is one of the few advantages we have.”

Karoline Leavitt said Democrats had “agreed” to inflict pain, asking: “What’s wrong with them?” he asked.

Clark responded by accusing the White House of “inverting the conflict” and creating “trauma” by firing workers.

But Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., called out his own party on Fox News’ “Hannity” and said: “I’m a man above party… Shutting down our government is wrong.”
