West Bengal govt will give ₹5 lakh to 60 Rath Yatra committees: CM Suvendu Adhikari

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that his government will give ₹ 5 lakh to each of the 60 Rath Yatra committees in the state on Monday, July 13, 2026. Numerous other religious outreach schemes and outreach were also announced by the senior leader.

“Rath Yatras that have been here for decades, 60 such Rath Yatra committees will be given ₹ 5 lakh each today… If there is any mistake in the preparation of the list in the first year, forgive us, let the management know, we will prepare an error-free list in the coming years,” Mr. Adhikari added.

kAnwar Yatris Those who go on religious journeys during the monsoon season (Sravan) season, “Seva camps” will also be provided at every 5 km intervals throughout their journey. “We are doing business worth ₹15 crore in Tarakeshwar Dham,” Mr. Adhikari said. He added that three types of camps will be established: police aid camp, rest camp and health camps.

The CM also said that they have made a provision for a “Tirtha Khetra Circle” in this year’s State budget, which will help in the development and rehabilitation of historical temples.aths (spiritual center) of the State, including Kiriteswari Shaktipeeth Temple in Murshidabad district.

The work will continue for the next two years and ₹ 1,000 crore has been sanctioned for this work in 2026, he added.

“We have taken the initiative to revive ancient temples with heritage and history, restore them to their former glory and bring them under the umbrella of heritage,” the CM added.

Mr. Adhikari had particularly criticized the previous Trinamool Congress government’s decision to give relief to over 45,000 Durga Puja committees across the State before focusing on clearing the outstanding Dearness Allowance arrears of State government employees.

Before coming to power, minister and senior BJP leader Agnimitra Paul had termed Mamata Banerjee’s decision to give money to Durga Puja committees as “religious politics” and the Trinamool government’s lack of focus on development.

Earlier in June 2026, Mr. Adhikari had hinted that they may continue to support Durga Pujas financially, but big-budget pujas may not yield monetary benefits and aid may become “need-based”.
