Men across the country still cringe when they see New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. foul his own groin.
It was bad enough that Chisholm had to leave the game, and many wondered why he wasn’t wearing a cup to protect himself.
We now have an answer.

Yankees beat writer Gary Philips shared some quotes from Chisholm explaining why he wasn’t a bowl man before he threw a foul ball to the cojones and why he won’t be a bowl man going forward.
WEEKS AFTER THE BULL BITTER’S RECTUM WAS PUNCHED, HE WAS SHOWED ANOTHER GROIN AND REQUIRED EMERGENCY SURGERY.
Chisholm stated that the pain level was “million” and said, “If you were hit in the testicles, you would understand this.”
Most men reading this just shook their heads at this statement.
However, Chisholm explained that although cups are mandatory in the minor leagues, he still skips the cups and will continue to do so because he is confident in his own defensive abilities.
“I’ve never worn a cup,” he said. “I didn’t get hit in the balls at all. It was just bad luck.”
Now, there are times when I wonder why guys don’t wear glasses all the time, just for some peace of mind (I feel the same way about helmets). You won’t regret not wearing a mug when you go cooking and a stray volleyball knocks you to pieces.
But I also like how Chisholm has the confidence to react and protect the kids. I’ve always said that a pretty significant portion of a man’s life is devoted to protecting his lower anatomy.
You’re always on guard, trying to stay away from anything that could leave you bent over on the floor, spewing out every swear word you know and many others you didn’t realize you knew.

Chisholm is conscious enough to know where her self-preservation reflexes are, and I respect that.
However, if he receives another foul ball to his lower body, he may want to start rethinking his stance in the cups.
