Reservoirs Near Full Capacity Across Anakapalle After Heavy Rains

Visakhapatnam: Following heavy rains brought by Cyclone Montha, reservoir levels in the Anakapalle district rose sharply, prompting continued monitoring by district officials. Many major reservoirs are approaching full capacity, with inflows exceeding outflows in many places, according to official data released Thursday evening.

Tandava Reservoir, which has a gross capacity of 4.96 tmc at Full Reservoir Level (FRL), currently holds 4.61 tmc of water, leaving a flood cushion of only 0.35 tmc. As of 15:00, the inflow was recorded at 2,940 cussecs, while the outflow was 1,314 cussecs, indicating a steady increase in water levels.

Raiwada Reservoir, another important water source in the region, showed even more significant figures. With a capacity of 3.6 TMC, it currently stores 2.83 TMC and receives an inflow of 5,594 cusecs against an outflow of 5,092 cusecs. Authorities are closely monitoring the remaining flood cushion of 0.77 TMC.

Smaller reservoirs such as Konam, NTR, Pedderu and Varaha are also seeing an increase in water levels. For example, Konam Reservoir receives 750 cusecs and releases 800 cusecs, maintaining a delicate balance. NTR Reservoir, which has minimal output, continues to accumulate water continuously.

District collector Vijay Krishnan instructed the irrigation and disaster management teams to be on high alert. “We monitor reservoir levels on an hourly basis and coordinate with mandal officials to ensure the safety of downstream villages,” he said.

The total combined storage in all monitored reservoirs stands at 999.44 TMC with a cumulative flood cushion of 106.41 tmc.
