Retired Bank Employee Duped Of ₹55 Lakh In Cyber Fraud

A retired bank employee was duped of Rs 55.20 lakh by cyber fraudsters in a fake stock market investment scam.
According to Penamaluru police, Vijayanand, a retiree from Union Bank from Kanuru in Krishna district, came across a Facebook ad offering business and investment advice. After contacting people, they were added to WhatsApp groups and deceived with the promise of high returns in the stock market.
He initially invested ₹22.20 lakh and transferred the amount to multiple bank accounts. The fraudsters then showed fake profits of 1.11 billion rupees and demanded additional payments as transaction and service charges.
The victim paid ₹23.50 lakh as processing fee, ₹3.50 lakh as other charges and ₹6 lakh as surcharge.
Later, when he could not reach them, he realized that he had been defrauded and filed a complaint. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
66 kg of marijuana seized from Vijayawada station; 8 kept
A joint team of EAGLE unit, Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Dog Squad seized 66 kg of ganja from Vijayawada Railway Station and arrested eight interstate smugglers.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of contraband on the Puri-Tirupati Express, the authorities carried out checks and stopped the consignment.
The accused are natives of Odisha and were transporting the ganja to Kerala and Tirupati, police said.
The operation was led by EAGLE inspector M. Ravindra and GRP inspectors Ramana and D. Nagarjuna. Sub-inspectors M. Veeranjaneyulu and Rambabu and Dog Squad RSI Durga Prasad were also involved.
Officials warned that drug smuggling through Vijayawada would not be tolerated and said further investigations were on.
Railway officer’s wife dies by suicide in Dharmavaram
The wife of a railway department inspector died by suicide at Dharmavaram in Sri Satya Sai district on Wednesday, reportedly due to family disputes.
According to sources, railway inspector Ashok was residing in Dharmavaram along with his wife Chamundeswari. The couple had been arguing for the last few days.
Dharmavaram police have registered a case and are investigating.
