Revealed: Olympic hero Sir Bradley Wiggins is dating US-based cyclist and social media influencer who has helped him rekindle his love for the sport

He has been unflinchingly honest about his mental health and addiction issues since retiring as Britain’s greatest racing cyclist and has just announced he is heading to the US for further treatment.

But The Daily Mail can reveal things are finally looking up for Sir Bradley Wiggins; He’s dating an amazing cyclist friend who he credits with rekindling his love for the sport.

And since his new partner, social media influencer Courtney Knott, is also US-based, his transatlantic journey today is expected to be as romantic as it is therapeutic.

Ms. Knott is a cycling consultant in her thirties who also runs luxury cycling camps in Aspen, Colorado.

He is also the former social media manager for WEDŪ Inc, the media company founded by cycling legend and drug dealer Lance Armstrong.

In fact, Wiggins, 45, says his new love has helped him enjoy cycling again after years of struggling after retiring from the sport.

The new relationship began to become public when Wiggo, as he is affectionately known to his fans, was spotted with Courtney at a cycling event in Putney, London, last month.

Smiling and looking back in shape, Wiggins was seen on his motorcycle for the first time in a while.

In a post on Instagram he said: ‘Getting back on the bike and enjoying it has been really liberating for me, it’s sort of freed me from my past.

‘A year ago I had no intention of swinging my leg over the bike, my partner Courtney reintroduced me to cycling, really helped me find my love for it… it was amazing, it really did.

‘Obviously I’ll never be able to avoid being Sir Bradley Wiggins, winning the Tour de France and the Olympics 10 days later.’

And last night it was revealed that Sir Bradley’s today’s visit to one of America’s leading trauma rehabilitation clinics was made possible by Armstrong’s support.

Speaking at the Barbican in York this week, he said: ‘I still talk to and see Armstrong.

‘I’m going to America [today]. Friday. ‘He paid for me to go to the best trauma counseling clinic in Utah, so I’m looking forward to that.’

Courtney lives in Colorado, a state neighboring Utah, and Wiggins is expected to spend time with her during the trip.

Wiggins said he is inspired by people who still want to take selfies with him, even though 13 years have passed since his achievements.

He said: ‘That bit of inspiration that was the inspiration for cycling for so many years ago has never gone away and again it was something that I resented for a while, that I pushed away, that I didn’t want to be a part of, but now I embrace it because I once inspired my people to cycle again and I was inspired by what it meant to them to cycle just with you, so I love it and it gives me satisfaction.’

Wiggins found love again with PR manager Laura Hartshorne shortly after meeting through mutual friends. The couple had a daughter named Ava, but they later separated.

Wiggins became the first Briton to win the Tour de France with his success in 2012.

He later won the gold medal at the London Olympics the same year.

He won eight Olympic medals in total and heralded his achievements by being named BBC Sports Personality of the Year, before being knighted in 2013.

But drug problems limited his happiness, and after his retirement in 2016, his life turned completely upside down.

He claims that at the height of his breakdown he became homeless in a crack house in Middlesbrough, sleeping in his car or on park benches in Clapham Common.

He destroyed his SPOTY trophy and knighthood in front of his children Ben, 20, and Bella, 19, during an explosive cocaine binge.

He filed for bankruptcy in 2024 despite reporting earnings of £13 million during his career.

That year, the £975,000 barn he once shared with his ex-wife Cath and their children was repossessed and sold by a building company.

Wiggins has revealed some of his most troubling times in a new book.

When she stopped competing, she said, she began to reexamine her past, including the harrowing sexual abuse she experienced at the hands of cycling coach Stan Knight during training camps in her youth.

In Wiggins’ new autobiography, The Chain, the cyclist describes his abuser as a ‘constantly insidious figure’ for three years (between the ages of 13 and 16), but also credits him with being instrumental in his success.

Wiggins also writes about her complicated relationship with her father, Gary, who abandoned her and her mother.

Gary had drug and alcohol problems and was a former professional cyclist who died in 2008, aged 55, after suffering a head injury following a house party in New South Wales.

But Wiggins says he’s clean these days, regaining his health and his financial situation is improving.

‘Everything is solved now. I’m on the front foot now. This was something that was done to me. Everything turned upside down. Those responsible are paying a heavy price for this. Fortunately everything is fine. ‘My life is in a good place,’ he told The Times.
