Former Mizoram Governor Swaraj Kaushal dies

Former Mizoram Governor and senior lawyer Swaraj Kaushal died on Thursday, December 4, 2025, Delhi BJP said in a statement. He was 73 years old.

Kaushal, husband of late BJP veteran Sushma Swaraj, was the father of New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj.

“We are saddened to announce the sudden death of former Governor of Mizoram and senior lawyer Swaraj Kaushal,” the party said in a message.

A BJP leader said that after Kaushal complained of chest pain in the afternoon, he was taken to AIIMS where doctors declared him dead.

It was stated that Kaushal will be cremated at the crematorium on Lodhi Road.

In an emotional post on X, Bansuri Swaraj said that her father’s compassion, discipline, simplicity, patriotism and immense patience are the light of her life that will never fade.

“Your departure has come upon us as the deepest pain in the heart, but the mind now bears the belief that you have been reunited with your mother in the presence of the supreme and eternal peace. Being your daughter is the greatest pride of my life and your legacy, values ​​and blessings will be the foundations of my journeys ahead,” the New Delhi BJP MP said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of Swaraj Kaushal and remembered her for using her legal profession to help the poor.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta condoled Kaushal’s death, saying the news of his death was heartbreaking.

Recalling Kaushal’s contributions to public life and the field of law, he added that his services to the nation and society are unforgettable.
