RG Kar rape-murder case: Three IPS ofiicers, including former Commissioner of Police Vineet Goyel, suspended

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday suspended three IPS officers, including former Police Commissioner Vineet Goyel, in connection with the RG Kar rape and murder case.

In a significant decision, West Bengal Chief Minister said: “We are suspending three IPS officers – Vineet Goyel, Indira Mukherjee and Abhishek Gupta. We will initiate departmental investigation against them.”

The CM said the main investigation will be conducted by the CBI.

After taking charge of the Kolkata Police as the Home Minister, the Home Ministry and the Chief Secretary carried out an investigation into the RG Kar incident.

“They have established the truth. Administrative action is being initiated due to mishandling of RG Kar case, improper filing of FIR by senior police officers, including other officers, and financial cash offers,” the CM said.

“The victim’s family’s version and the police’s version, the role and instructions of any minister and others will be taken into account. The language of a DCP’s press conference in front of the media will also be examined. We will take action against all these,” the CM said.
