Ricky Gervais takes aim at Grammy winners for using speeches to get political

Comedian Ricky Gervais used his Grammy Awards acceptance speeches to weigh in on politics on Sunday, taking aim at celebrities and evoking a moment from his famous monologue criticizing celebrity navel-gazing.
Gervais posted a photo excerpt from his 2020 Golden Globes routine, in which he took on Hollywood.
“If you win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make political speeches,” Gervais said at the time. “You are in no position to lecture the public on anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you have spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.”
“They still don’t listen,” Gervais wrote in the caption of his post about X.
Several celebrities who won awards at the Grammys on Sunday used their platforms to criticize Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Bad Bunny, who is scheduled to perform at Super Bowl LX’s halftime show next weekend, protested immigration efforts while accepting the Best Urbana Music Album Grammy for his song “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.”
“Before I thank God, I’m going to say ICE out,” he implored from the stage. “We are not savages, we are not animals, we are not aliens; we are humans and we are Americans.”

Bad Bunny called for unity and said that “the only thing stronger than hate is love.”
Billie Eilish said “f— ICE” at the end of her acceptance speech. “No one is illegal in stolen land. We must continue to fight and raise our voices. Our voices matter.”

These words were met with great applause at the Grammy awards.
Trevor Noah, who hosted this year’s Grammy Awards show, took aim at Nicki Minaj during his opening remarks, saying the star was not at the awards ceremony, to applause from the audience.
