Rideshare driver stabbed with machete after refusing common passenger request

A teenager was arrested and charged with stabbing a rideshare driver early Sunday morning; police have revealed the shocking alleged motive behind the attack.

Just after midnight, emergency services were called to Patrick Street in Blacktown to reports of an attack with a machete.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a rideshare driver in his Toyota sedan with a cut on his arm.

Allegedly, a 17-year-old suspect, whom the driver did not know, got into the vehicle and wanted to connect his device to the driver’s Bluetooth.

When the driver refused, police allege the teenager stabbed the man, then quickly got out of the vehicle and ran away.

Police arrested a boy on a street in Toongabbie at 2.45am on Sunday.

He was taken to Blacktown Police Station and charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Meanwhile, the driver was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

The teenager was refused bail to appear before the Children’s Court on Sunday.
