‘Right place at the right time’: Arizona utility worker saves toddler from rush-hour traffic | Arizona
An Arizona utility worker is said to have provided “a powerful reminder of what it means to look out for each other” while on duty when he stopped a toddler running away from his parents from entering heavy car traffic.
Robert Butler’s timely intervention was recently captured in a chilling video recorded by a security camera in downtown Phoenix and recently released by his employer. Arizona Public Service (APS).

“I think my son was happy to see me when I got home,” Butler said, wiping tears from her eyes. “That little boy might be happy to see his parents or whoever.”
As APS noted, on the day of the emergency, a utility supervisor named Kort Meyer first saw the little boy in question running alone toward a busy road with heavy traffic.
Meyer, who was at an APS facility in downtown Phoenix, attempted to intercept the child. However, a locked door prevented him.
Fortunately for everyone, Butler was driving nearby in his pickup truck and saw what was happening. He immediately pulled his truck over, jumped out, ran toward the child, and scooped the toddler into his arms just a few feet from the four-lane road.
When the butler caught up with the boy, a truck had just passed the lane where the toddler was about to step. In the video, seconds after Butler picked up the child, a sedan can be seen speeding toward the next nearest travel lane.
A visibly relieved parent soon hurried over to Butler and was reunited with her toddler.

APS said Butler’s quick thinking didn’t just mean the afternoon “ended safely.” The company’s statement claimed it was also “a powerful reminder of what it means to look out for someone else.”
