Rihanna’s alleged home shooter could face life in prison as she’s charged with attempted murder

The woman accused of opening fire at Rihanna’s home while she was with her family was hit Tuesday with 14 charges, including attempted murder.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced that Ivanna Lisette Ortiz has been charged with one count of attempted murder, ten counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and three counts of shooting into a dwelling or camper.

The 35-year-old woman could face life in state prison if convicted of the crimes that occurred Sunday, Hochman said.

Although it was previously reported that Rocky (real name: Rakim Mayers) was not home at the time of the shooting, the LA DA’s Office stated at the press conference that Rihanna, 38, and Rocky, 37, were in a trailer on Ortiz’s property when he allegedly opened fire.

According to Hochman, Ortiz was accused of shooting into a residential home three times because there were two residences on Rihanna’s property, while Ortiz also allegedly shot at a neighbor’s home.

The prosecutor said the 10 separate attacks were for each person who was allegedly in Ortiz’s line of fire.

Rihanna said she and Rocky have three children; sons RZA, three; Rebellion, two; and her five-month-old daughter, Rocki, and her mother were on the property along with two staff members at the time of the shooting.

There were two other people in the neighboring house where Ortiz allegedly fired.

Although no one was injured in the clash, a police official said, Los Angeles Times Rihanna and Rocky were said to be ‘easily shot’.

According to the LA Times, Ortiz appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday but did not enter a plea.

Ortiz, wearing a blue jumpsuit, had a follow-up hearing scheduled for March 26.

Ortiz was also ordered to stay away from Rihanna and Rocky if released on bail.

In addition to issuing a protective order, Judge McGonigle also ordered Ortiz to surrender all his firearms.

At a news conference outside the courthouse, Hochman said: ‘I want everyone in this county to understand that you should feel absolutely safe in your home, in your neighborhood and in your community. When someone decides to come into our community and shoot them, that person will be arrested and held fully accountable for their actions.’

Ortiz, who hails from Orlando, Florida, was represented at his first hearing by LA County Public Defender Jamarcus Bradford.

He is accused of firing an AR-15-style rifle from his white Tesla onto Rihanna’s property next door.

Documents obtained by the publication showed that a judge in Florida granted Ortiz’s ex-husband full physical custody of her child in April 2024.
