Rimi Sen, who shared screen space with Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, is now selling homes in Dubai. Know why ‘Dhoom’ star made a stunning career shift

Who is Rimi Sen and where is she now?
Born in Kolkata in 1981, Rimi Sen was born Subhamitra Sen and starred in the Bengali film ‘Damu’ in 1996 and started her acting career when she moved to Mumbai. He did not come from a family with film connections. Before appearing in films, she appeared in a number of commercials, including a memorable soft drink commercial alongside Aamir Khan. Rimi made her Hindi film debut with Hungama in 2003 and immediately garnered attention for her poise alongside Akshaye Khanna and Paresh Rawal.
Rimi’s big break came when she got a major role in Dhoom (2004) and the audience warmed up to her. The film was a huge hit, and her portrayal of Sweety – along with her easy chemistry with Abhishek Bachchan – made her a household name.

Over the next few years, Rimi produced a number of successful films. He has appeared in popular productions such as Baghban, Garam Masala, Kyon Ki, Phir Hera Pheri and Golmaal: Fun Unlimited. He gained a reputation for excelling at comedy, blending seamlessly into mainstream Bollywood and bringing a lively spark to his roles. He also bagged a role in Dhoom 2 and showcased his versatility as an actor by experimenting with different genres, including thrillers like Johnny Gaddaar.
Why did Rimi Sen leave Bollywood?
In a candid interview with Bombay Times in 2021, Rimi revealed her decision to quit Bollywood. “Acting makes good money and brings fame. That’s how I survived for 10 years, and I will always respect that. People invite you to events, and actors get paid well. Thanks to my film career and the work I did in my 20s, I was able to become a producer. All of this was possible because I am a well-known face,” he said.“I quit Bollywood because I stopped playing glamorous pots in films. It was boring to be used as a flashy prop or to be told to take tissues and fake cry in the background while the hero is centre-stage. I want to come back now only if I can be proud of the films I have chosen. I am proud of my films like ‘Johnny Gaddaar’ and ‘Sankat City’ but unfortunately these films were not very successful,” he continued.
The glamor and the buzz are fading away
In the late 2000s, the excitement around Rimi began to fade. Many of his films, including De Taali, Sankat City and Thank You, failed to make an impact at the box office. Meaningful roles became fewer and he gradually moved away from mainstream Bollywood. Her last notable film appearance was in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s action drama Shagird (2011).
But Rimi never completely disappeared from the public eye. She returned to reality television, appearing on Bigg Boss 9 in 2015 and trying out for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9. These assignments introduced him to a new generation of viewers. He has also ventured into film production by supporting the biopic titled Budhia Singh – Born to Run, who goes by his real name Subhamitra Sen.

New era in Dubai
After leaving the cinema, he turned a new page in Dubai and started working in the real estate sector. In a recent interview, he said: “Dubai is very welcoming, so 95% of the population here is expatriates, the rest are Emiratis. Dubai has warmly welcomed everyone; there are mosques here, there are temples as well. They look after everyone and the main focus of the city is how to make people’s lives better, easier and more comfortable.”
“This is something we don’t see much in our country, because the government changes policies overnight and makes people’s lives more difficult. There are thousands of taxes, endless hardships, and it’s not a business-friendly country anymore.”
“The real estate market here runs smoothly because there is discipline. You only have to work with agents and agents. Developers are doing their job, agents are doing their part and there is a proper system,” Rimi said.

Rimi Sen denied that she had plastic surgery
Rimi Sen became a trending topic on social media two years ago due to her unrecognizable appearance in Instagram photos. When netizens concluded that she had gone under the knife, Rimi told Hindustan Times: “If people think that I have undergone plastic surgery and they feel it in a good way, that is very good for me. People are still talking about it without even having plastic surgery. I just had fillers, botox and PRP treatment and nothing else.”
Responding to the trolls, Rimi said, “Maybe people saw my latest photos and felt that my skin looks good. Anyone can look good by doing these treatments and maintaining discipline. But if you think what I am doing is bad then tell me how can I fix it so I can tell my doctors where they are doing wrong.”
