The Election Commission (EC) is understood to have given time to the Trinamool Congress’s Ritabrata Banerjee faction by Friday, July 10, 2026, to file responses to notices issued by the Commission regarding allegations made by them about organizational elections and authorized signatories of the party.
Last week, the EC had written to both factions of the Trinamool Congress, led by former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Uluberia Purba MLA Ritabrata Banerjee respectively, seeking responses on the “allegations and counter-allegations” made by them and asked them to submit the same by 5.30 pm on Monday, July 6, 2026.

While the Mamata Banerjee-led faction of the All India Trinamool Congress on Monday filed its reply rejecting the rival faction’s claim against the party, Ritabrata Banerjee sent a legal representative to the Commission seeking more time.
AK sources told Hindu They were told that they were given until Friday this week.
Last week, a full member of the poll panel met the party’s rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee.
However, Mamata Banerjee’s side of the party questioned the EC’s decision to give an audience to the rebel group, claiming that the meeting violated the poll body’s own procedures of granting appointments only to signatories of a recognized political party.

Trinamool Congress’s Mamata Banerjee-led faction, in its response on Monday, rejected the rival faction’s claim about the party and highlighted that West Bengal Assembly Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee, who leads the other faction, was not even a member of the party committee during the last round of organizational elections in 2022.
Mamata Banerjee’s supporters claimed that the All India Trinamool Congress organizing committees will remain valid till 2027 as per the party constitution.
