Mahagathbandhan’s Chief Ministerial candidate and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also announced that a lump sum of Rs 5 lakh would be provided for five years to financially assist people from marginalized communities engaged in caste-based professions.
Mahagathbandhan Prime Ministerial candidate and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday announced a major poll promise assuring that representatives of Bihar’s Panchayati Raj system will double their allowances if the INDIA bloc wins. He also said that representatives of panchayat and Gram Kachahari (village courts) will get pension along with insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh.

Sitting next to Vikassheel Insaan Party chief and alliance Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Sahani at the press conference, Tejashwi Yadav said that the margin of employees will also increase as part of the public distribution network.
“The honoraria and allowances of three-tier panchayat representatives and village court representatives (gram kachari pratinidhi) will be doubled once our government comes to power. A retirement scheme will be launched for former panchayat and village court representatives. Insurance cover of up to 50 lakh rupees will be provided to three-tier panchayat and village court representatives,” the RJD leader said. he said.
He also announced that a lump sum of Rs 5 lakh would be provided interest-free for five years to financially assist people from marginalized communities engaged in caste-based professions. “A lump sum of Rs 5 lakh, which will be interest-free for five years, will be provided to hard-working people of communities including Nai, Kumhar, Badai and Lohar to provide financial support. From this, they will be able to purchase modern vehicles to pursue their (self) employment,” Tejashwi said. he said.
Mahagathbandhan had earlier announced Tejashwi Yadav as the CM face of the Bihar assembly polls while also naming Mukesh Sahani of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) as its Deputy CM candidate.

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections will see a direct contest between NDA and Mahagathbandhan. The NDA consists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led Mahagathbandhan includes Congress, Dipankar Bhattacharya-led Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Mukesh Sahani’s VIP.
Additionally, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party announced that it will contest all 243 Assembly seats in the state.
Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, and counting of votes is scheduled for November 14.
