Robbie Williams pokes fun at viral World Cup moment after fans saw ‘white substance falling on microphone’ live on TV

Robbie Williams poked fun at a World Cup interview that went viral after fans suspected a white substance was falling out of his nostrils.

The 52-year-old singer performed at the opening ceremony of Sunday’s game, but as she chatted with pundits afterwards, fans noticed something white falling from what appeared to be her nostril and quickly removed it from the microphone.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Robbie poked fun at the viral clip, confirming it made him drool and apologized for being ‘absolutely unprofessional’.

He wrote: ‘I just woke up and felt… ‘Mint’.

He pretended to be serious in the video, telling fans: ‘I want to apologize for the object that fell into the microphone yesterday.

‘This was extremely unprofessional and people were worried about me. But that’s okay because there were a few more.’

Robbie then opened his mouth to reveal a few mints in his mouth.

The singer kicked off the 2026 World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday night with an incredible pre-match performance.

Robbie, 52, got the party started on stage with Nicole Scherzinger and Laura Pausini.

She put on a vibrant display in a sequined blue Adidas tracksuit and showed off her quirky rock star hairstyle.

Robbie made a quick outfit change to watch the match with his handsome wife Ayda Field.

Ayda looked gorgeous in a pale blue jacket and funky white sunglasses as she supported her husband.

Robbie’s glittering World Cup appearance sparked comparisons with one of TV’s most iconic characters; One fan noted that the look was eerily similar to the tracksuit worn by mobster Paulie ‘Walnuts’ Gualtieri on the HBO series The Sopranos, which aired from 1999 to 2007.

Posting a photo of the singer, the post was captioned: ‘Robbie Williams in his Sopranos-era Paulie.’

Robbie kicked off the 2026 World Cup final with an incredible pre-match performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

One user noted that the look was eerily similar to the tracksuit worn by gangster Paulie ‘Walnuts’ Gualtieri (played by Tony Sirico, left) in the HBO series The Sopranos.

Paulie was one of Tony Soprano’s men on the show and later became a captain in the DiMeo crime family to gain family patriarch Tony’s approval.

Known for his slick back wings, gold chains and fierce one-liners, he was played by Tony Sirico, who died in 2022 after being diagnosed with dementia several years ago.

Robbie will also tour the UK and Ireland next year.

The music superstar will perform at the RW27 headline show at Thomond Park Stadium in Limerick, Ireland, on July 6th, and will bring his incredible live show to Lytham Festival 2027 in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, on July 3rd.

The new Ireland date follows the huge success of Robbie’s sold-out headline show in Dublin’s Croke Park last summer.
