Rogue gator delays flight at Savannah/Hilton Head airport: ‘He just laid down’

A Delta flight from Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport was briefly delayed due to an alligator resting near the runway. WJCL 22 reports.

According to air traffic records obtained by the station, the pilot of the plane reported that the medium-sized alligator was reported around 6 p.m. on March 20, before its scheduled takeoff.

After an air traffic controller expressed confusion, the pilot replied, “Yes, about five feet.” “He just laid down.”

Airport spokeswoman Lori Lynah did not immediately respond to a phone call seeking more information Wednesday.

Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport is located at 400 Airways Boulevard in Savannah, just 40 miles from Hilton Head Island.
