Rough times for broadcast networks illustrate changing media landscape

NEW YORK (AP) – This week, two miles of stones showing the diminishing power of broadcast television in the media world, one is fed by the habits of young people and the other elders.
In June, the audience spent time to watch more flow services than the combination of broadcast and cable television. This was for the first time in May with a percentage points, but Nielsen said that on Tuesday, GAP has expanded significantly in June.
In addition, during the third plain week, Nielsen said Fox News Channel has more viewers than ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox Entertainment’s broadcasting networks for the first time in weekday weeks.
For years, the mantle of the media managers represented the future for domestic entertainment. Now, this future has come clearly.
In June, 46% of Americans’s TV time was spent on flow services led by Youtube and Netflix. Nielsen said that 23.4%of wired television networks represented and that the broadcast was slightly below 42%. For the first time, the TV had fallen below 20% of watching the total TV.
“I felt like the right time,” Nielsen’s Product Strategy and Thought Leadership Vice President Brian Fuhrer said. “Many people thought it would be faster.”
The driving force in June was the end of the school for young people, so they had more time to watch TV, and Netflix series such as “Ginny & Georgia” and “Squid Game” were a big hit. Nielsen said that approximately two -thirds of people aged 6 to 17 watched the flow before the traditional TV.
In June 2024, numbers were roughly reversed – 47.7% of the people were watching traditional TV in an average minute and 40.3% entered a flow service.
Although the direction is clear, it is not a death struggle for traditional TV. Fuhrer, June and July Nadasa for months and the football season starts and the original comedies and dramas returned, he said they would increase.
It is also a solid one or not; Media companies do a better job to spread their content to different platforms to make a choice for the audience. Youtube, a portal for “traditional” TV, which many consumers can access free of charge, has also fueled the flow services.
Fox News occasionally kept broadcasting networks in the audience, but represented his seventh week in 2025 last week, already united more than 2024 and 2023. Nielsen said that last week was average of 2.4 million viewers in weekday weeks.
Fox News, summer nights and barbecues hold people outside the broadcasting networks traditionally benefits from the least watched time of the year. This year’s difference, for example, President Donald Trump has won several weeks outside the summer during the opening week in January.
The audience – among the oldest of all television networks – tends to be quite constant throughout the year.
