Royal Family LIVE: Andrew crisis ‘bigger than abdication of Edward VII | Royal | News

It has been claimed that the Royal Family is facing a bigger crisis over Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor than Edward VII’s abdication. The former Duke of York was exiled to Norfolk after further details of his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein emerged in the latest set of documents released by the US Department of Justice about the convicted pedophile.
Andrew, who was also stripped of his titles and honors, has repeatedly vehemently denied any wrongdoing regarding Epstein. But the former Duke of York caused more public outrage than Edward VII’s abdication less than a year later in 1936, said the former prince’s biographer Andrew Lownie. Speaking at the Oxford Literature Festival, Mr Lownie said Edward’s abdication was a “three-day miracle” and the public at the time was not interested in the full details of the bombshell incident, but the crisis surrounding Andrew and his links to Epstein had caused a deeper royal crisis.
