Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will likely celebrate Valentine’s Day in Montecito, California today; but around the same time last year, they made a move that left fans and royal watchers “speechless.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex traveled to Vancouver, Canada, to attend the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler in early 2025.
At the Games’ opening ceremony on February 8, the couple sent shockwaves around the world after a passionate kiss; Meghan was seen placing her hands on her husband’s face for the sweet moment. However, while the couple’s kiss was received positively by some fans, others found it “disgusting” and branded it a “photoshoot”.
The Daily Mail’s Amanda Platell wrote at the time: “As a doting Meghan looked on, he grasped her arm and held her face for a public kiss. No photos were missed. Megs was determined that he and their love affair should take center stage, whatever we think of the heroic men and women the occasion actually celebrates. In all my years as a journalist and former political spin doctor, I cannot recall such a miscalculated and sickening public display of affection.”
