Royal fans were quick to comment on Prince Harry’s bombshell statement about security arrangements for his trip to England next month. The Duke of Sussex is returning home for five days but does not currently have access to 24-hour taxpayer-funded police protection.

Harry is said to be trying to find a way to bring his wife and children safely to England, despite concerns about how they will be protected and confusion about where they will stay. The Duke was awaiting a review by the Risk Management Board (RMB), which is part of the process by which the Executive Committee for the Protection of the Royal Family and Public Personalities (Ravec) decides on security requirements, but learned on Friday that this had not yet happened. A spokesman for the Duke said: “The Duke continues to explore every option available to ensure the visit proceeds safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK.”

They added: “Prince Harry’s schedule in the UK includes both public and private appearances across the country.

“Safe accommodation is only one element of an effective preventive security plan because risk follows the person, not the place.

“The issue was never the accommodation. The issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security was provided for the entirety of the visit.”

“The independent Risk Management Board that Ravec himself decided was necessary last November has still not been established.

“It is therefore difficult to see how the proportionality of existing regulations can be reliably maintained without this independent assessment.”

However, some fans criticized Harry’s request and expressed their opinions on social media.

One user said about X: “Still [Sussexes] Travel to Nigeria, Colombia and Jamaica. For God’s sake. Harry has been to Ukraine twice and it is an active war zone. “We’re not a curse, Harry.”

Another added: “I completely miss your logic that his family needs such high security and uses the same security in the US (same case in Los Angeles) and that’s fine. If someone wants to reach their family it happens anywhere. Why is the UK different?”

A third agreed: “If the Princess of Wales, the FUTURE QUEEN of the United Kingdom, can wander around doing the Three Peaks Challenge without ANY security or ANY security concerns, it screams that Prince Harry’s ‘appropriate and proportionate’ security is actually about his fragile ego.”

A fourth asked: “How about sneaking into England like they did in Portugal?”

Another agreed: “How about you stop telling everyone what you’re doing and stay in one of the Royal residences he’s been offered? I’d say they’ll send him a car. He’s already got protection, as you well know.”

A sixth commented: “They could have sneaked the kids in and then left. Then they could have made the announcement. Instead, they announced to the world that they were going to put the kids in the headlines and then released their minute-by-minute travel plans.”

Harry has faced a protracted legal battle with the Home Office over security arrangements for him and his family while in the UK after his level of protection changed when he resigned as working royal in 2020.

When the duke lost his Court of Appeal appeal against the Home Office last year, he expressed his hope for a reconciliation with his family in an interview with the BBC and said he would not speak to Charles due to his security case.

Harry added: “I can’t see a world at this point where I’m bringing my wife and kids back to the UK and the things they’re going to miss are, you know, everything.”

Harry had planned to have his wife, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet join him on his five-day trip to celebrate the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham.

No decisions have yet been made regarding Harry’s safety.
