Royal Mail workers ‘stole £750k from parcels and sent money back to Pakistan’ | UK | News

Two Royal Mail workers have been accused of stealing £750,000 in packages and sending the money to Pakistan. Mehdi Raza, 38, and Zafran Mahmood, 34, allegedly stole the money between January 2023 and September 2024.
Court documents say the men were employed as agency workers by Royal Mail in Dennistoun, Glasgow. They allegedly received a special delivery package containing a mobile phone and £750,000 in cash or foreign currency. A second claim alleges Raza was found to be in possession of criminal property worth £159,842 at his home in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, on 16 September 2024.
They are accused of repeatedly transferring money between themselves and from Scotland to Pakistan.
The indictment states that Raza and Mahmood, in order to hide the source of the money, claimed to Barclays Bank that the property in Pakistan was sold for a higher value than the value they sold it for. It is also alleged that the couple claimed to have sold two motor vehicles when they had not.
The final fraud charge alleges Raza made false claims to justify the source of his income and maintain his Barclays Bank account.
Mahmood, of Knightswood, Glasgow, and Raza pleaded not guilty to the charges at Glasgow Sheriff Court. Another hearing will be held next month.
