Prince William was welcomed at the top of Sugarloaf Mountain, the iconic Brazilian landmark.

Arriving in Rio de Janeiro this morning on a commercial flight, William took the cable car to the top, where he was greeted by the city’s Mayor, his wife and daughter, as well as the deputy mayor and his wife.

Mayor Eduardo Paes then took the prince to the helipad, where there is a bird’s eye view of the city, and to the statue of Christ the Redeemer at the top of Corcovado Mountain.

After enjoying the magnificent views in the bright sunshine, William was presented with the keys to the city by the Mayor.

They posed for photos in the middle of the helipad before heading outside the cable car entrance, where they greeted the cheering public for 10 minutes.
