RTA suspends permits of 28 private buses

Ernakulam Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has suspended the permits of 28 private buses plying to Kakkanad from different parts of the city.

The RTA’s action, headed by the District Collector, followed a lightning strike in November 2025. Accusations against the bus operators involved include violating permit regulations, going on strike without notice and stranding passengers at different locations.

The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) had suggested to RTA to suspend the permits following the lightning strike. The strike was reportedly ordered following a dispute with MVD officials assigned to enforcement duty.
