Commentators claim Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will get “what they always wanted” as their royal exit deal fell apart during their trip to the UK. The Duke of Sussex is also expected to attend Duchess of Sussex and possibly Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet five day trip To celebrate the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham.

The trip sparked fierce debate about the reasons behind the visit and how the Sussexes would benefit from being reunited with the Royal Family. Daily Mail Editor-in-Chief Alison Boshoff said, referring to a friend of the Duke: Harry‘s upcoming visit to England will be low-key and family-oriented, in addition to official Invictus events.

Ms Boshoff compared it to the Sussexes’ last trip Down Under, which she said was “very bad” and proved why the late Queen was right not to accept Harry and Meghan’s offer to be half outside the royal family.

This could also see Harry and Meghan pursuing their own money-making schemes while also representing the monarch. The couple were rejected by the monarch at a meeting at Sandringham before stepping back as senior royal staff.

Ms. Boshoff told royalist The podcast, in which the discussion with the source turned to a trip to Australia, sparked criticism from some that the couple was confusing elements of the royal tour with business ventures.

The Sussexes insisted the money-making parts of the trip were aimed at raising funds for charity work.

Ms Boshoff, citing her source, said some had suggested that a new arrangement meant Harry could do his “semi-royal” job and sell things in the US and elsewhere in the world, but that he would “have to play with a straight stick” in the UK.

According to the royal watchdog, this means there is no mention of Meghan’s As Ever products in the UK or that the Duchess brought a pot of jam to King Charles and later took it public to promote her brand.

Ms Boshoff added: “Under these circumstances he will come back and be part of the Royal Family and be what he always said… ‘I am a working royal.’ So he will get what he always wanted.”

Podcast host Tom Sykes told him Harry had “won” and the King had “given up” by agreeing to a “thorough renegotiation” of the Sandringham summit.

This was the name given to a meeting on January 13, 2020, where the late Queen, Prince William, Charles and Harry reached an agreement on the future roles of the Sussexes.

Buckingham Palace released a statement saying it would not be possible for Harry and Meghan to “continue the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service” by leaving the royal family.

On whether the Duchess of Sussex will join Harry, Mr Sykes claimed: “Somehow it will happen because I think Meghan is absolutely desperate to engage with the Royal Family to revitalize her brand.”

He claimed that the trip ultimately signaled the end of the agreement reached at the Sandringham summit.

Ms Boshoff said it was clear the Sussexes had been working on a return for some time, with her source suggesting a return had been imminent since January.

He suggested Harry and the King were “in lockstep” with his public comments since then, including on Ukraine and antisemitism.

The author said: “My contacts say Harry is proving he’s grown up. He’s proving he can be trusted… [Harry and Meghan] We work hand in hand with some of the people at Charles’s court who love them, and this is the result.

“This isn’t just a visit. It’s more than that. This is actually a re-entry into the family and the institution.”
