Rupert Everett says years of weightlifting in Hollywood left him ‘crippled’

Rupert Everett reveals the dark side of Hollywood’s body image pressures.

The experienced actor said that the years he spent shaping the perfect leading actor physique left him facing serious physical consequences decades later.

“I destroyed myself. As a result, I’m now almost disabled,” Everett admitted Guard.

The “My Best Friend’s Wedding” star, 67, said years of intense weightlifting in the 1980s and 1990s left him with permanent health problems.

He explained how he neglected important aspects of training that could help protect his body from injuries.

“Because your tendons are getting tighter and tighter, I could never be bothered to do things like the stretching required to lift weights,” Everett said.

“It’s so boring. I didn’t do any of these. So, I guess my death will be from the musculoskeletal system.”

Before moving on to weights, Everett found another way to accentuate her look.

The British actor admitted that he secretly wears custom-made overalls even on film sets to make himself look bigger, stronger and more muscular.

“I met these two queens at Tufnell Park [north London] The bodysuit maker and they gave me a fake butt, fake thighs, fake shoulders, fake everything.” Everett explained. “Yes. [I wore them]in everything.”

According to Everett, the custom-made enhancements helped him showcase the image he felt was expected in the entertainment industry at the time.

When asked if the directors were aware of the overalls, Everett said he was keeping the secret to himself.

“No! I would go to costume fittings with all my belongings on,” she replied.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Everett for comment.

Everett has had a decades-long career spanning film, television and theater, earning acclaim for his roles in projects such as “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “An Ideal Husband” and “The Madness of King George.”
