Russell Brand faces new charges of rape and assault

British authorities have brought forward new rape and sexual assault charges against comedian Russell Brand, who is already facing similar allegations against four women.
Did the UK Crown Prosecution Service announce new charges? A rape and a sexual assault? The lawsuits filed against Brand involved him being in relationships with two other women.
The alleged crimes occurred in 2009, the service said.
Brand, 50, was charged in April with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault.
The charges followed an 18-month investigation after four women claimed they were assaulted by the controversial comedian.
Prosecutors said these crimes occurred between 1999 and 2005. one in the English seaside town of Bournemouth and the other three in London.
Brand pleaded not guilty to these charges in a London court in early 2025.
He is expected to appear in court again on January 20 on two new charges.
A trial is also planned for June and is expected to last four to five weeks.

When the initial charges were announced in April, Brand said he welcomed the opportunity to prove his innocence.
“I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord,” he said in a video on social media.
“I was a drug addict, a sex addict, and an imbecile. But I was never a rapist. I never engaged in non-consensual activity. I pray you can see that by looking into my eyes.”
The Associated Press does not name alleged victims of sexual violence, and British law protects their identities from the media for life.
