Russia celebrates as US ‘letting us attack Ukraine’ – ‘Trump is ours’ | World | News

“The United States allows us to attack Ukraine,” Russian experts said in a state television program.
Speaking about peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, Dmitry Novikov, a leading researcher at the Center for Central Asian Studies, said that “any territorial concession on behalf of Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelensky would be political suicide.”
Then he added: “I got the impression that the Americans were just waiting. They gave us an opportunity. ‘Go ahead and take the opportunity. We’re not going to help you, you’re not our ally, but we’re not going to get in your way either.’ This option suits us very well.”
Another speaker suggested: Donald TrumpThe Peace Board “looks like a Trump-chaired board of directors” with “great managers and weak managers.” It was also claimed in the television program that Trump’s board of directors “is a board that will thaw us.” [Russian] The speaker also added: “As of this week, Trump is ours again.”
The Kremlin has insisted that to reach a peace deal, Kiev must withdraw its troops from eastern regions that Russia has illegally annexed but never fully captured. The trilateral talks earlier this week took place just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the Ukraine deal during lengthy overnight talks with Donald Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Providing up-to-date information on these talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: “The Ukrainian diplomatic team reports almost every hour from the UAE, where a meeting took place today, including the delegations of Ukraine, America and Russia. They are discussing the parameters for ending the war. By now, our team must have received at least some answers from Russia. The important thing is that Russia should be ready to end the war it started. Ukraine’s positions are clear. I defined the framework of our delegation’s dialogue.”
Territorial disputes remain the main obstacle to negotiations, especially in the eastern Donbas region. Vladimir Putin has insisted that Ukraine withdraw its forces from the remaining parts of Donetsk that Kiev still controls, even though Russia has failed to fully capture the region during years of conflict.
But while analysts and polls suggest there is little public support for territorial concessions in Ukraine, Zelensky has refused to give up any land. The Kremlin said full control of Donbas remained a “very important condition” for peace.
He called the two-day Abu Dhabi summit “a hopeful step towards ending the war” but warned that many possible outcomes remain.
