Russia, Ukraine swap more than 1000 bodies of soldiers

Parliament member Shamsail Saraliev said in a statement to the Russian news portal rbc.ru that Russia and Ukraine have exchanged soldiers’ bodies for the first time since February.

He said that the Ukrainian side killed 1,000 soldiers, while Russia took 41 bodies.

The politician is responsible in the Russian parliament for issues related to the “special military operation”, as the war is officially called in Moscow.

The previous relic swap took place in February.

The prisoner of war affairs office in Kiev confirmed on Telegram that Ukraine had received 1,000 bodies.

The official thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross for its support.

It was stated that forensic experts will now examine the bodies.

This aims, among other things, to eliminate the possibility that the bodies of Russian soldiers were delivered by mistake.

The staff added, “After the identities of the dead are determined, the bodies will be handed over to the families for honorable burial.”

Russia and Ukraine regularly exchange soldiers’ funerals.

Last year alone, Ukraine recovered the bodies of more than 15,000 fallen soldiers, according to official figures.

Russia received only a small part of it.

Due to the slow but steady advance of Russian troops, the Ukrainian army is not always able to save its fallen soldiers.

Ukraine has been defending itself against Russian occupation with the help of its allies for more than four years.
