Ryan Fitzpatrick says he wouldn’t change his NFL journeyman career

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

When Ryan Fitzpatrick had his NFL dreams, he wanted what every kid wants.

Fitzpatrick had hoped to stay with one team his entire career, but as he recently told Fox News Digital, “That hasn’t been my story.”

Instead, Fitzpatrick holds the NFL record of starting with nine individual teams and has numerous other quirks when it comes to suiting up for nearly a third of NFL organizations.

“I always wanted to play. So wherever I went, it was usually with the intention of being a starter and playing somewhere. Then inevitably someone would get drafted and I’d go play somewhere else because I was a guy who liked to be on the field and sit on the bench and watch,” Fitzpatrick said. “So that was the only way I could do it, just keep moving from team to team.”

It was certainly an unorthodox career, and Fitzpatrick played for the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, St. He is the definition of a “journeyman” as he played for the St. Louis Rams, Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans and Washington Commanders.

But “I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

“A lot of it was the amount of teammates I was able to have, but it was also the journey I was able to go on with my wife, my kids and all the wonderful people we met outside of football,” Fitzpatrick said.

“Our neighbors and our friends, we have relationships in every city that we’ll keep forever. So yeah, I think when people get drafted, they all have this idea that they’re going to be on the same team their whole career. That hasn’t been my story. I wouldn’t change it for anything because I absolutely loved every second of it.”

Those relationships have helped Fitzpatrick off the field, too, as he will be one of many celebrities competing in the American Century Championship, also held this month in Lake Tahoe. This year, he teamed up with Performance Golf to cut his handicap by a few strokes in the hope of getting near the top of the leaderboard.

“American Century is a lot of fun. There’s a great group of boys and girls playing outside and it really feels like family because everyone comes every year,” Fitzpatrick said.

“You get to spend time together, and that’s the same on the golf course. It’s a little different than a golf tournament, A, because we’re not all great golfers, but B, because of the interactions we have with the fans throughout the tournament. That’s probably my favorite part.”
