Days after the film’s removal satluj Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), from an OTT platform, announced on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, that the party will screen the film in Punjab, even as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused SAD of “siding with those responsible for the injustices committed against Punjab and the Sikh community”.

The film, previously titled “Punjab ’95” and detailing activist Jaswant Singh Khalra’s life in Punjab during the traumatic phase of militancy between the mid-1980s and early 1990s, was released uncut on ZEE5 with the new title “Satluj” on July 3.

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said that he has directed every worker, every official and every leader of SAD to release this film in every nook and cranny of every village, town and city of Punjab.
He said his aim was to ensure that today’s youth and our future generations know about the indescribable tragedies and oppression that took place during the then Congress governments. This film presents the agony of Punjab during that phase, and now, the Punjabis, especially the Sikhs, are being stopped from recalling and recording that era in the form of history, he said, adding, “SAD will never remain a mute witness to this injustice.”
Referring to the statement made by late Jaswant Khalra’s wife Paramjit Kaur Khalra, AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said in a statement, “It has been revealed that Sukhbir Badal wrote a letter to the Central government to ban the Punjabi film Satluj. If this is true, nothing can be more shameful than this. This reveals the true face of the Badal family before the Sikh community and people.” Punjab.”

“The Congress committed this atrocity, the BJP government is now preventing this truth from reaching the public and the Badal family is helping them suppress it. This clearly shows that the three are working together when it comes to hiding the truth about Punjab,” he said.
