Sam Neill left behind a multimillion-dollar fortune and a string of estates following his death this week at the age of 78.
The Jurassic Park star, who passed away suddenly in Sydney on Monday, boasted a winery empire as well as a net worth estimated at $25 million to $28 million.
The New Zealand actor’s primary residence was a sprawling New Zealand winery called Two Paddocks, located in the Central Otago region of New Zealand’s South Island.
He opened Two Paddocks in 1993, and the winery quickly became famous for its Pinot Noir, a lightly spiced red wine.
Known for its Pinot, the brand also has a reputation for producing high-quality Riesling.
The business started life as a simple five-acre plantation but has expanded to include four vineyard sites.

In 2008, Neill admitted that the growth of the business was only possible thanks to the money he earned from acting.
‘I wish the vineyard would support me, but I’m afraid it’s the opposite. “It’s not a very economical job,” Neill, who has appeared in more than 100 film and TV productions over his decades-long career, told The Western Australian.
But Neill admitted that the pleasure he got from running the vineyard made it all worth it.
‘It’s a ridiculously time- and money-consuming job,’ he said, adding: ‘I wouldn’t be doing it if it wasn’t so rewarding and fun, and it frustrates me every once in a while.’
The piano star also had a home in Wellington, New Zealand.
In 2020, Neill sold his mansion in Sydney’s Double Bay for approximately $3.6 million via a virtual auction service.
He bought the four-bedroom house in 1996 with his wife, Noriko Watanabe, for $839,000.

‘It is with great sadness that Sam Neill’s whānau (family) share the news of his passing in Sydney, Australia, on Monday 13 July. “Sam was surrounded by his family and passed with the dignity that characterized his entire life,” they said.
‘The loss was sudden and unexpected, but fortunately Sam remained cancer-free. They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of St Vincent’s Private Hospital for their incredible care.
‘More details will be shared later, but for now, on behalf of the family, we ask that you respect their privacy as they cope with this immeasurable loss.’
In April, Neill, known for his role as Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park series, announced that tests determined that he did not have cancer.
In an interview with Channel Seven, Neill described how close he came to death after the chemotherapy started working. Instead, it was an expensive, cutting-edge treatment that later extended his life.

Neill said: ‘I’ve been living with a certain type of lymphoma for about five years and I’ve been having chemotherapy and it’s pretty awful but it’s been keeping me alive.
‘Then the chemotherapy stopped working. ‘I was beside myself and it looked like I was heading for the exit, which was definitely not ideal.’
Neill underwent a special treatment called CAR T-cell therapy, which genetically modifies the patient’s own T cells to recognize and destroy cancer cells.
