Sam Pang steps down as host after three-year stint as broadcaster seeks replacement
Comedian Sam Pang has confirmed he will not be returning to host the Logies in August. “I’ve had three great years and it’s been great, but I’m not going to do it this year,” he said.
Pang said Seven approached him about hosting the 66th awards on Sunday, August 16, but he “politely declined.”
“It was a very friendly meeting,” Pang said. “I’m very aware that I may never do this again, and I’m sure whoever does it will do a great job, but I thought three was a nice number.”
Pang’s three-year stint delivered huge ratings for Seven; The 2025 broadcast averaged 1.43 million viewers, the highest since 2012. The comedian was widely praised for his work on the awards show, which saw him return to MC after relying on a cast of hosts.
Pang’s tenure also marked the first time the awards were given by a male of color. “Let’s be honest, it’s great to have an Asian on Channel Seven who isn’t trying to smuggle live birds through border security,” Pang said in his opening monologue in 2023.
As for who he wants to host the awards: Pang, who stars in ABC’s upcoming comedy. grounded She said she enjoyed the inauguration of comedians Kitty Flanagan and Anne Edmonds later this month. “Or there are plenty of people who could do that, and I’m sure they’ll find a great one.”
A new host isn’t the only change in Logies this year; Eureka Productions is taking over production from ITV Studios. Following feedback on last year’s event, there was a change in the evaluation criteria. The award venue has not yet been announced to the public.
Sydney has hosted the awards at the Star for the past three years. He was previously at the Gold Coast (2018-2022) and before that in Melbourne. Seven’s move to Sydney replaced Nine* as broadcaster of the awards.
With no hosting duties ahead of him, Pang said he would be happy enough to watch from the audience. “I’m going to sit at the table and enjoy it,” he said. “If any of the shows I’m on are nominated… and I’ll be able to enjoy the night from a different perspective.”
Seven people were contacted for comment.
