Samoa’s first female PM fails to win re-election after months of political infighting | Samoa

Samoa’s first female leader Fiame Naomi Mata’afa did not gain majority in the elections of the Pacific nation this week and closed the political fight that lasted for months.

The official results published by the Election Commission on Friday have shown that the opposition Fast Party won 30 out of 50 controversial chairs in Parliament.

This means that Fast’s leader La’aulialielyietoa Leuatea Polataivao Schmidt will probably swear as prime minister.

The SUP party will replace Fiamē, known as the “Pacific Iron Lady ,, which won only three seats.

Fime, after being accused of crimes including crimes, including trying to mislead the course of harassment and rejected justice, expelled La’aulialielyietoa from the cabinet in 2023.

When he refused to resign, he rejected him – he will only be removed from the Fast, who founded himself as a leader. During the campaign, he responded by accusing the dissemination of conspiracy theories and starting by establishing legal proceedings.

In 2021, Fiame was elected as the first female leader of the country. The period made a rocky start after led to the legal challenges and constitutional maneuver that left the country without a government that works for 45 days.

The first female prime minister of the country swore from the room after a parliamentary election.

In April, its leadership came under an urgent situation of widespread interruptions and intensely examining Fime’s leadership. The interruptions hit an economy where inflation was already stretched.

The proposed government had to resolve the parliament in May after overwhelming the budget.

Since the fall of the government, the Prime Minister has served as acting.

Increased prices were a key problem for voters of about 220,000 people.

“Nobody wants what happened in 2021 to be repeated,” the publisher Tui Eddie Taualapini said. “People only want a government to be established quickly and bring the budget.”
