Savage squirrel sends 2 locals to A+E and ‘almost killed’ one

California natives fear a rogue squirrel who ambushed locals, sending some to the hospital and “nearly killing” one.

Isabel Campoy and her niece Carmen were attacked on Mount Lassen Drive in San Rafael, California.

“He almost killed me,” she told ABC 7 Eyewitness News.

“The squirrel jumped out of the ground and tried to jump on my face.

“My arm was completely taken over by the squirrel. It finally jumped out; at that moment I was filled with blood.”

Joan Heblack also recalled the horror of a morning walk in the Lucas Valley when the pest was “attached” to her leg.

He said: “The tail was flying here. And I said, ‘Get it off me, let me go!’ I was saying.

Heblack’s leg was bloody and bruised, and he ended up in the emergency room. But he wasn’t the only victim.

Leaflets have since been hung on lampposts warning residents about the “golden” threat, which locals say has attacked up to five people.

It has also become a viral topic of discussion on the neighborhood app Nextdoor, where users compare bite marks and swap survival tips.

Wildlife experts say the culprit probably wasn’t rabid, just hungry.

WildCare’s Vanessa Potter explained that when hand-fed, baby squirrels often grow to associate humans with food.

He said: “If they don’t understand there can be disappointment.”

Residents of the region are now keeping their eyes peeled for fear of new attacks.

Campoy added: “It hurts to touch your skin. I’m putting my best foot forward and my mind to say I’m going to survive this.”
