SC hearing on NCERT Class 8 textbook LIVE updates: ‘Deep-rooted conspiracy,’ says CJI on inclusion of chapter on ‘corruption’ in judiciary

‘It is fundamentally wrong to subject students to prejudicial misconceptions at this tender age.’
CJI Kant says the necessity of judicial intervention has emerged to preserve pedagogical sanctity. “Students are just beginning to understand the nuances of life; it is fundamentally wrong to subject them to preconceived misconceptions at this tender age.”
“The multifaceted and burdensome responsibilities of the judiciary need to be appreciated,” the CJI said, adding that this could have a lasting impact on the independence of the judiciary.
“We must keep in mind that the subject book will not be limited to students only, its content will also reach students, teachers, parents and future generations. It may have a lasting impact on the independence of the judiciary. Such abuses, if proven to be intentional, amount to criminal defamation, will scandalize the institution and bring it into disrepute,” he adds.
