SCBA Condemns Brutal Murder of Senior Advocate in Hyderabad

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Bar Association on Tuesday condemned the “planned, brutal and shocking murder” of senior lawyer Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad and demanded a “fair, prompt and thorough investigation” to bring the perpetrators to justice. Senior lawyer Khaza Moizuddin, 63, died after he was allegedly run over by unidentified assailants in an SUV on May 23.
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), headed by senior advocate Vikas Singh, said: “Assault resulting in the death of a Bar member is not just an offense against a person but also an attack on the institution of justice itself.”
The verdict, signed by SCBA Secretary Pragya Baghel, said the death “clearly resembles a planned, brutal and shocking murder of the senior lawyer”.
“The incident has deeply disturbed the legal fraternity and has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of lawyers performing their professional duties. The legal profession forms a fundamental pillar of the justice delivery system and any act of violence against lawyers strikes at the very foundation of the rule of law,” the statement said.
The association called on the relevant authorities to “conduct a fair, rapid and comprehensive investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice as soon as possible in accordance with the law.”
The 63-year-old lawyer was about to get into his car when an unlicensed SUV hit him at his home in Masab Tank, Hyderabad.
Police said Moizuddin was taken to hospital but breathed his last while receiving treatment. Images of the man hit by the car went viral.
Moizuddin’s son said that his father fought against the seizure and encroachment of foundation properties by some people who he claimed were behind the incident.
He said five previous attempts had been made against his father, adding that the alleged foundation rapists had threatened him to persuade his father to stop fighting the cases filed against them. Police said a murder case was registered on the complaint of Moizuddin’s son.
