Schools trial an extra week off for pupils to give parents ‘cheaper holidays’ | UK | News
Some schools have divided the ideas to spend an extra week to allow children to allow parents to “cheaper holidays”. Within the scope of the program, children will be allowed for an extra one week during the autumn half -term and extended to compensate for the lost time. Critics argue that the additional week will increase the child care burden for many people, while others believe that the changes are “stupid”.
However, managers who lead changes argue that parents will help them to avoid significant price increases in school holiday travel and give the opportunity to revive themselves by facilitating teachers’ escape. Chris McGoven, the President of the Real Education Campaign, said, “We should ask what is more important – Passport to Mayorka or a passport for children’s future?”
He said Daily Mail: “We need to increase academic demands on children. This falls.
“Children need to take shorter lessons rather than longer lessons. They get tired during the day.
“They have to provide a minimum number of hours a year, so they can only make a shorter and shorter number of days longer and shorter days in theory.”
Northern Walsham High School in Norfolk, one of the schools led by the changes, said parents will “provide an opportunity for parents and caregivers to access cheaper holidays”.
They said: “For the last few years, we have had a lot of holiday demands that we could not authorize.
“At a time when the disease increases due to winter months and fatigue, this will add a longer break to the longest term to support a decrease in your absence, as this will have a greater opportunity to relax and listen to the break.
“This will also give staff a better break and less absenteeism, so that they will minimize the cover lessons and allow the staff to rest, so they can continue to do a perfect job.”
Research by charity Parenkind found that many parents believed that summer holidays were too long and that they wanted to see that they were shortened instead of longer half -times.
Some schools in the UK has already pointed out to look at the six -week summer holiday for two weeks, added to an extra week of October and February half -term holiday.
Considering the changes, the spokesman of Enrich Learning Trust, who managed some schools, said that every school -controlled school will not adopt measures.
They said: “After consulting the school communities, they planned a two -week half -term pilot in October 2025 to improve the participation in the second half of the autumn period.
“We understand that this is something tested by other trusts.”
