Arakkonam police arrest pharmacist, staff for selling narcotic tablets

The 28-year-old pharmacist and his team were arrested by the Arakkonam District police for selling narcotic tablets (Tapentadol) in Ranipet district.
Police said the arrested men were brothers G. Somnath, 28, who run a pharmacy in Mumbai, and their staff member S. Ram, 41. It was reported that these people sold the banned tablets to agencies in the region over the internet.
Initial investigation revealed that the arrested suspects told investigators that they had ordered tablets from the duo. Later, after completing the online payment, the banned tablets were sent to them via courier.
Police said a special team has been formed on the instructions of Ranipet SP Ayman Jamal to trace key suppliers in the trade. Police analyzed the mobile phones, bank transactions and other documents of the arrested suspects and traced the pharmacy in Mumbai. The team received permission from the local court to search the pharmacy and warehouse with the support of the local police.
Police said that they found documents regarding the sale of tablets to agencies in the district during the searches. The duo was brought to Arakkonam and produced before the local court. They were lodged in the Central Jail in Vellore. An investigation is ongoing.
