Scotland fan passes away in Boston before chance to see ‘dream come true’ | UK | News

Donny Strathie, of Grangemouth, Falkirk, passed away suddenly in Boston on Sunday, June 14, aged 76.
The lifelong Scotland supporter had traveled to the United States to support Steve Clarke’s team on the biggest stage and even bought his ticket for Friday night’s game against Morocco. Unfortunately, he never had the opportunity to witness the match he so wanted to attend. Daily Log reports.
Now his family, friends and fans are calling on the Tartan Army to unite and honor him during the match. A poster circulating online encourages Scotland fans to join in a minute’s applause in the 76th minute of the World Cup match in recognition of Donny’s age.
It says: “A minute’s applause for Donny Strathie. Tartan Army foot soldier who died in Boston on Sunday, June 14. Share and spread the word: A minute’s applause in the 76th minute of Scotland v Morocco.”
“Donny sadly passed away suddenly in Boston on Sunday, aged 76. He had a ticket to the match and it was his dream to see Scotland in the World Cup but he never got the chance. Let’s make him proud.”
Donny was a leading figure in his local community and was captain of the Bowhouse Pool team. Daughters Denise Strathie and Cheryl Strathie posted photos of their father out of continued love and sympathy for the beloved man.
Cheryl Strathie shared the call with the following words: “Please share on any platform. Let’s see if we can all make this happen together, dad.”
Lynne Easton responded to a tribute photo posted by Denise Strathie: “I’m so sorry for your dad. We’re all heartbroken and sending our love. A great man who lived life the right way, walking from his neighborhood to his football to his family. Love to you all and I’m here to help in any way.”
Karen Keegan McPheat said: “It’s so sad. He was so lovely and cheerful. He was on TV last week saying look out for him. He will be missed.”
Posting on the Falkirk Chit Chat Pool League group, David Jerrett wrote: “I have heard the sad news that Donny Strathie, a stalwart of the snooker league and captain of the Bowhouse for many years, has passed away. He was in Boston watching his beloved Scotland. Rest easy my friend, away from the snooker world.”
Lee Stevenson said: “Oh, that’s so sad. I’m glad the last thing he did was do what he loved. I hope he saw Scotland win their first game.”
Graham Rae added: “Such a shock. He was at ours just before he left? Great guy too. RIP.”
