For nearly four years, death, taxes, and Scottie Scheffler’s deduction were among the few things you could count on.

Until Friday.

Scheffler, 2022 FedEx St. He missed the cut at the Scottish Open for the first time since the St. Jude Championship, ending a streak of 78 cuts. This was the longest hitting streak on the PGA Tour since Tiger Woods broke the record of 142 consecutive cuts from February 1998 to May 2005.

Scheffler finished two shots outside the cut line after shooting a 2-under 72 on Friday to finish the tournament at par. The 30-year-old was blunt in his assessment of his game.

“I got off to a bad start and after that I couldn’t get close enough to take care of myself,” Scheffler said. “That’s how you shoot above average.”

The top 65 placing and tie were not official until the second round was completed. Scheffler missed a 6-foot par putt on the par-3 ninth and fell to par at 142, leaving him in a tie for 88th.

Scheffler was just three shots behind the lead to start the day but struggled with the putter. He missed the 3 1/2-foot par putt on No. 11, his second hole. On the par-5 12th, his chip from the high grass to the back pin caught a ledge and rolled into a bunker, leading to a second straight bogey.

Xander Schauffele’s streak of 72 in a row ended at Torrey Pines in January. The longest active hitting streak belongs to Matt Fitzpatrick with 29 consecutive wins.
