“While we do not comment on the details of this matter, one principle is certain: any behavior that potentially threatens the security of the protected person will not be tolerated,” he added.
The agent’s case is currently being handled by the agency’s internal affairs unit, possibly the Justice Department’s professional liability office. It is not yet known whether the investigation will lead to internal disciplinary action, criminal charges, or both.
The investigation comes as the Trump administration continues an aggressive crackdown on what it says are unauthorized leaks to the media.
