Security forces engage in encounter with Maoists in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum; no casualty reported

A senior police officer said that there was an encounter between security forces and Maoists in a forest in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Tuesday morning, May 19, 2026.
Police Inspector Amit Renu said that there was no loss of life in the incident, which took place in Porahat forest near Kedabir village in Sonua police station area.
The incident occurred while security personnel were conducting a routine screening operation.
Noticing the approaching security personnel, the Maoists opened fire on them and retaliated; There was a brief encounter and then the Naxals retreated deeper into the forest.
The SP said several Maoists were still operating in the area, including their senior leader Misir Besra, who carries a £1 million bounty on his head.
He said search efforts were continuing.
