SEN RICK SCOTT: Enough excuses. The Senate must work until the job is done

Did you know that the U.S. Senate has only been in session 79 days (about 40%) so far this year? So far we haven’t passed anything to secure our elections, reduce inflation, cut spending, or prevent another Democratic shutdown.
What is not surprising is that while he was working only 2.5 days a week, nothing got done. This is crazy. We get things done at a slow pace, we have to work 7 days.
Consider the status update: The Senate has yet to fulfill several of the important promises we made to the American people this year; this includes securing our elections through the SAVE America Act.
TRUMP HELD HOSTAGE IN WASHINGTON OVER SAVE ACTION AS SIGNS OF GOP-CONTROL MIDTERM EXAM TIME
As I noted in a recent letter to my colleagues in the Senate. Republicans, Democrats and Independents overwhelmingly want voter ID for elections and want only Americans to be able to register for elections, key components of the SAVE America Act.
But the Senate still hasn’t passed the legislation or even agreed on how to proceed. To fix this, we need to change the way we do business.
A Senator’s job was to come to Washington to debate, vote, and carry out all of our agenda items before allowing us to go home.
Unfortunately this is no longer the case. In recent years, under the leadership of both Democrats and Republicans, the Senate has worked less and less, and Americans have felt the consequences of the legislature’s lack of urgency.
We’re currently getting less than 10 votes a week. We arrive to vote late Monday and leave as soon as possible Thursday afternoon. The Senate rarely meets on Fridays and almost never works on weekends; Even as deadlines loom on issues critical to the safety, security and stability of the American people.
And it’s not just election security that’s at stake. We still need to fund the government to prevent Democrats from closing another open border. We need to cut spending to lower interest rates and inflation, which are wreaking havoc on American budgets.
America is the greatest country in the world. We have the strongest economy because of workers who work their butts off every day to do their jobs, provide for their families, and achieve the American Dream.
I think the Senate must demonstrate the work ethic we expect from the American people to keep our economy afloat. There are many policies we need to enact before election day this November. Why do we only come 2.5 days a week if we still have work to do?
Our situation is not the failure of any party or individual, but a problem that has been getting worse for decades. Congress gets less productive every year because we leave to go home on Thursday while there’s still work to do.
I’m sure we all want to be home with our families as much as possible — every American probably feels that way — but that’s not the job we’re asking our voters to elect us for. This is absolutely not the job I promised the people of Florida. I told them I would work as hard as I could to help them achieve the American Dream, stay safe, and live free.

Time is short. Getting all this done before November will mean staying in Washington until we figure out how to make it happen. This means sitting down and working together to find solutions, rather than throwing up our hands and going home.
We can’t take “no” for an answer and stop just because it’s hard.

To that end, I will go directly to the Senate floor in the coming weeks to bring up the policies I implemented when I ask Floridians to vote for me.
Let’s solve the problem. Let’s stop flying home after lunch on Thursday, start voting more, and keep our promises. This is what the American people deserve.
