Senior NSW Police officer allegedly assaulted ‘repeatedly’ while investigating late-night shooting

A senior NSW Police officer was allegedly attacked while investigating an overnight shooting in Sydney’s west.
At around 11.30pm on Wednesday, police were called to Campbell Hill Road in Chester Hill following reports of shots fired.
Police officers from Bankstown attended the scene and were told “several shots” had been fired from a black vehicle at another vehicle, with both vehicles fleeing before police arrived.
A 26-year-old man arrived at Auburn Hospital a short time later, and police said the man was admitted to the emergency room with gunshot wounds.
A police spokesman said: “Officers from Auburn Police Area Command attended the hospital and found a Mercedes in the car park with multiple bullet holes. A crime scene was established.”

“Police attempted to speak to a man in the emergency room and during the interaction the man allegedly assaulted the 58-year-old lead inspector by repeatedly punching him in the head.”
Police are understood to believe that the man who allegedly attacked the chief inspector took the injured man to hospital.
Detectives from Strike Force Skrit launched an investigation.
