Sessions Court acquits Sanjay Raut in defamation case filed by BJP leader Somaiya’s wife

Mumbai: The sessions court here on Thursday allowed Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut’s revision application, acquitting him in the defamation case filed by Medha Somaiya, wife of BJP leader Kirit Somaiya.

The BJP leader’s wife had dragged the Rajya Sabha member to court, alleging that he had made false and completely defamatory allegations against her and her husband in the media, accusing them of being involved in the Rs 100 crore scam related to the construction of public toilets in the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation area.

Last year, a magistrate court found Raut guilty in the case and sentenced him to 15 days in jail.

The Sena (UBT) leader then appealed to the sessions court, challenging the magistrate’s decision.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court accepted his plea on Thursday.

The detailed order was not yet available.
