Seven booked for extortion, assault in Byadarahalli

The Bengaluru police arrested seven people for allegedly extorting ₹2 lakh from a businessman and his relative at Byadarahalli in northwest Bengaluru on December 15.

The prime accused has been identified as Manjunath LS alias Magadi Manju and his partner Chandan Gowda.

Investigators suspect Manju has a criminal history and confirm her involvement in other cases. The other accused were identified as Rajesh P., Devraju alias Devu, B. Chandru, Santosh N. and Rajashekar CS All and were taken into judicial custody.

The victim, a Gutka products seller, told the police that the incident took place around 23.30 on December 15, when he was returning home with his relative.

According to police, Manju, Gowda and their accomplices stopped the businessman’s car near BEL Layout and allegedly threw a large stone on the windshield. The accused then took the businessman and his relative out of the car, attacked them with sticks, forced them into another car and took them to a petrol pump on Magadi Main Road.

According to the police FIR, Manju snatched the businessman’s mobile phone, contacted the victim’s family and demanded ransom of ₹ 10 lakh. Finally, the accused collected ₹ 2 lakh from the victims and dropped them near BEL Layout. The defendant allegedly threatened the victims and warned them not to report the incident. Despite this, the businessman filed a complaint the next day. The police arrested the suspect based on technical evidence.

The accused were booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) chapters.
