Seven people taken to hospital after three-vehicle collision on Sapphire Coast

Half a dozen people have been taken to hospital following a dramatic three-vehicle crash in NSW.
Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to Sapphire Coast Highway between Tura Beach and Merimbula on the Sapphire Coast at around 10am on Saturday morning following reports of an accident.
They found that two vehicles, an SUV and one towing a caravan, had collided at the T-junction.

The vehicle pulling the caravan crashed into the barricades on the side of the road, and the metals prevented the vehicle from moving towards the forest area.
While the front of the other vehicle collapsed completely as a result of the accident, the rear of the SUV collapsed and its wheels fell off.
After medical teams treated 7 people at the scene, they took 6 slightly injured people to Bega Hospital.
A woman in her 40s was injured in the chest, while a young girl was injured in the ankle.
Both lanes of Sapphire Coast Dr were closed for hours as firefighters and tow trucks worked to clear debris from the scene.

NSW Police said traffic was being diverted as investigations into the incident continued.
Locals described the intersection where the accident occurred as “dangerous” and called on the municipality to make it safer.
“I was on the bad end of this situation in the exact same place, took my eyes off the road for two seconds and boom, I was under the speed limit, luckily everyone was okay,” one local wrote on social media.
“Hopefully fixing this intersection will not lead to a serious accident or loss of life, it is very close to the bend coming from Tura Beach.”
