Several University of Iowa students wounded in downtown shooting after fight erupts near campus

Gunfire erupted near Iowa City’s busy Pedestrian Mall. University of Iowa Several people, including students, were injured in the incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, and police are scrambling to secure the area as the suspect is still at large.
Police responded Iowa City Public Safety said a fight was reported around 1:46 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of East College Street, a busy nightlife area near the university. When officers arrived, they heard gunshots.
Police said several victims injured in the attack were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
Five shooting victims have been identified, one victim is in critical condition and the other four are stable, police said.
Five people of interest in the shooting in Iowa City, Iowa, were seen walking, police said.

In the statement made by the school, it was stated that University of Iowa students were among the injured.
“Although the investigation is still in its early stages, there is no indication that the intended victim was any college student,” the statement said.

No arrests have been made in the matter shot. Police later released photos of five suspects in the shooting.
